As director Tate Taylor got into the story of corruption-creep in the family of a powerful New Orleans religious leader, more and more music came up as part of the story of an American mega-church. Knowing Travis Howard's background and familiarity with Southern religious culture, Taylor called him, not to score the show, but to conceive and produce the sound of the music that takes place in the story.
